Metallisation paste manufacturer for c-Si solar cell

The Heraeus photovoltaics business unit is an industry-leading metallisation paste manufacturer for c-Si solar cell. We formulate metallisation paste to increase the efficiency, performance and output of solar cells while reducing the cell’s cost per watt.

Our R&D staff aim to reduce the silver content and improve paste coverage of our front-side and back-side pastes, while improving efficiency, thereby improving the value of solar cells. Heraeus develops and supplies pastes for conventional and advanced cell designs, and now pastes for thin film modules.

Front-side silver pastes for conventional solar cells

Heraeus’ line of front-side silver pastes for conventional solar cells provide high efficiencies and wider processing windows, resulting in better yields and higher output for cell manufacturers.

We are developing pastes that allow for finer line resolution during the screen printing process. Our newest products, with lower silver content and higher cell coverage, provide customers with lower cost per watt.

Pastes for advance and novel cell design architectures

Heraeus has a broad line of pastes for advanced and novel cell design architectures. These pastes are customisable to meet customer’s individual requirements, and we introduce several new formulations each year for advanced cell designs. These new formulations include metal wrap through (MWT), high sheet resistance, selective emitter, N-Type cells heterojunction and passive emitter rear cell (PERC) designs.

These designs all serve the goal of improving cell efficiencies. We have increased our R&D staff to develop pastes to optimise these designs for cell manufacturers.

Low temperature processing pastes

For thin film and other advanced cell technologies, Heraeus has developed the 500 series of pastes, which was designed for low temperature processing. These series of pastes are fast curing (ranging between three to 15 minutes based on product and application), are screen printable and work in temperatures under 280°C. The products currently available in this series are SOL530 (for organic PV applications), SOL540 (for PERL cells) and SOL550 (for heterojunction cell design applications).

Optimised adhesion characteristics

Our back-side pastes also provide low-cost and optimised adhesion characteristics. We are focused on significantly reducing the silver content of our back-side pastes. By the second quarter of 2012, we had already released a new back-side paste with a silver content of 50%. We continue to work on lowering the silver content further while maintaining excellent properties.
