Solar-Specific Strategies are Distancing Diffusion from Semiconductor Past14 July 2011 by BTU International
Like several other key crystalline PV module manufacturing steps, the wafer diffusion process has drawn on techniques from the semiconductor industry.
Given the common chemistries and basic physics principles shared by semiconductor wafer processing and solar wafer processing, as well as the semiconductor industry backgrounds of many high-profile solar executives, the application of old methods to PV manufacturing processes has been a natural - and largely successful - choice for manufacturers.
However, diffusion - which can be broadly divided into the precleaning, coating, thermal diffusion and cleaning steps - is now entering a new process-development phase.
