Substrate

Substrate refers the base or supporting materials to which additionallayers or materials are applied. The substrate is part of the wafer from which dies are cut, and is the circuits electrical grounding. Semiconductor substrates are usually made from silicon, but are occasionally made from sapphire, for use where radiation resistance is important, such as military applications.
